Religion freedom is provided for in Mexico's constitution, and its various religious groups typically enjoy a peaceable relationship. However, at local levels conflicts occasionally arise, especially between Roman Catholics and Protestants or other minority sects. And in many of these cases local authorities have been lax in protecting the targeted groups. Improvement has been noted in past years, and interfaith dialogue continues to be promoted on the federal level.
